Choosing the Right Automatic Pool Cleaner for Your Commercial Swimming Pool
An automatic pool cleaner is a great investment for any commercial swimming pool. These cost-efficient products end up paying for themselves with savings in water, chemicals, energy, and labor. They will also provide your guests with a clean and healthy swimming environment, which is vital to their health and safety. Traditional methods of pool cleaning can miss small debris particles, especially in deeper areas of the pool. It’s also difficult for poolside and manual vacuums to reach all parts of larger commercial pools. Automatic pool cleaners can easily reach all areas of your commercial pool, including the walls and waterline.
Aqua Products’ automatic pool cleaners feature a 2-micron filer bag that collects dirt and debris you can’t see with the naked eye. A micron is a measurement for microscopic objects and organisms. With a 2-micron filter, an automatic pool cleaner picks up pollen, algae, sand, and dust – things your manual vacuum miss.
Manual pool vacuums require manual labor and rely on the pool’s filtration system, which uses an ineffective amount of water and electricity to clean the pool. However, an automatic pool cleaner requires very little labor and has its own filtering system that pulls water into the robot’s filter bag as it’s running. All this saves you a ton on energy costs and water usage.
Running an automatic pool cleaner will also save on chemical costs by circulating the chemicals already in the pool. Chlorine is a heavy chemical and will sink to the bottom if not regularly circulated. As the automatic cleaner filters the dirt and debris out of the pool, it also mixes the chemical-heavy water at the bottom of the pool with the chemically depleted water at the top. Regular water circulation allows a more accurate read when testing the chemicals in your pool, and is shown, in some cases, to reduce the amount of chemicals used.
How to Choose the Right Automatic Pool Cleaner for Your Commercial Swimming Pool
Automatic pool cleaners come in many sizes, with different programs and parts so it’s important to make sure you have the correct model for your pool. In order to ensure maximum efficiency and cleaning, simply answer the following four questions about your commercial swimming pool:
What is the size of your swimming pool?
The size and depth of your pool determines what size and filtrating system you will need in an automatic pool cleaner. Larger pools require big cleaning units, such as the Ultramax XL, Duramax Duo, or the Gemini, which have higher gallon-per-minute filtering capacities. Your unit will also need a longer power cable in order to reach all areas of the pool. Smaller cleaning units, such as the Jetmax, Aquamax X3, Duramax RC, and Magnum, are more efficient choices for smaller pools.
What is the shape of your pool?
There are two types of automatic pool cleaners – those with rigid programing and those that adjust to specific pools. Automatic cleaners with rigid programming have one operating pattern that repeats over and over. This is ideal for rectangular shaped pools, but not as effective in pools with any kind of irregular shape. Curves and irregularities can cause a rigid programmed cleaner to miss spots or become tangled in its own power cord. For irregular shaped pools, you will need a program-adjusting pool cleaner. Aqua Products offers pool cleaners with Aqua Smart System programming which collects data on the swimming pool’s specs. This information is then sent to a microchip which creates a specific cleaning program for that pool. These kinds of pool cleaners can be placed in any pool, and within 30 minutes the pool cleaner will create its own customized cleaning program.
Is the surface of your pool rough or smooth?
This very important question determines the kind of brush you need for your automatic pool cleaner. Rough surfaces such as concrete, pebble, and aggregate are best served by rubber brushes that wear out as quickly. Tile, glass, or other smooth surfaces pools are too slippery for rubber brushes, and require PVA brushes instead.
Is there anything unusual about your pool?
In order to ensure you have the right programming and model for your commercial pool, it’s crucial to note any oddities in the design of your pool. Many automatic pool cleaners are built with sensors, timers, delay switches, and come with a remote control. However, any kind of irregular features in your pool’s design can lead to the cleaner becoming stuck or tangled if it’s not the right model for your pool.
- If your pool has a bulk head, you will need to measure the distance between the bottom of the bulkhead and the bottom of the pool. Cleaners with a height that is smaller than this measurement can become stuck under the bulkhead.
- Pools with a zero-depth entry area or play obstacles, like those found in a water park, will benefit from an automatic cleaner with a remote control.
- Other design features to consider are open hand railings, safety ledges, and handicap entrances.
